RADHA SAPTHAMI AT TIRUMALA ON FEBRUARY 10 _ తిరుమలలో ఫిబ్రవరి 10న రథసప్తమి
TIRUMALA, FEBRUARY 3: The annual ‘Rathasapthami’ festival will be celebrated with utmost religious fervour in Tirumala on February. The temple management of TTD has cancelled all arjitha sevas on that day in view of this auspicious occasion.
Tens of thousands of devotees from all over the country, congregate atop the sacred shrine to participate in the mega event also popularly known as ‘Surya Jayanthi’ festival. This festival is also called “Mini Brahmotsavams” as the processional deity of Lord Malayappa Swamy takes a pleasure ride on seven vahanams on a single day starting from morning 5:30am till 9pm in the night.
Mounted atop seven different vahanams including Suryaprabhachinna Sesha, Garuda, Hanumantha, Kalpavriksha, Sarvabhoopala and Chandra Prabha, the Malayappa Swamy will grace the pilgrims all along the four mada streets at diifferent intervals.
Among all the Vahanams, Surya Prabha and Garuda are considered to be the most important ones. The festival commences with “Suryaprabha Vahanam’ in the wee hours as tens of thousands of pilgrims congregate in the north-west corner of the temple town as early as 4.00 a.m. to catch the rare sight of ‘first rays’ of the sun falling on the forehead, abdomen and feet of the deity mounted atop the Golden ‘Suryaprabha Vahanam’. This vahanam procession will take place from 5:30am to 8am. It will be a celestial fete to the eyes of the devotees to see the lord dazzle in the first sun rays of the day.
