GAJA VAHANAM

Tirumala, October 10, 2013:  On the evening of the sixth day of Srivari Brahmotsavam, Lord Venkateswara enthralled the devotees on the Gaja Vahanam. Elephant has been a vehicle of the Tirumala deity from time immemorial.

The richness of hindu mythology lies in its generosity to provide a respectable position of worship even for various species of fauna. Starting from Cow to Crow each of these creatures have a revered place in Hindu scriptures. Among those blessed creatures, the mighty elephant occupies a pride place being the vehicle of Goddess Laxmi Devi, the Consort of Lord Vishnu. To appease His consort as well to bless the devotees with prosperity lord takes a pleasure ride on Gaja Vahanam.

The procession of Lord Malayappa well decorated with jewellery of pearls, diamonds and other precious stones atop the Elephant vehicle is a celestial sight for all of his devotees.
