BIRRD HOLDS SOUTHERN INDIA’S FIRST WORKSHOP ON DEFORMITIES CORRECTION
TIRUPATI, 28 June 2015: The TTD-run Balaji Institute of Surgery, Research and Rehabilitation for the disabled(BIRRD) held a two- day international workshop on Deformities Correction, the first of its kind in the entire South India in the hospital premises on Sunday.
The work shop which commenced under the joint collaboration of BIRRD and SUV Manufacturers, Pune concluded on Sunday evening. Over sixty orthopaedists hailing from the southern states of AP, TN, Karnataka, Pondicherry in India and those from Srilanka and Middle East countries also took part in this work shop.
Addressing media persons the BIRRD Director Dr G Jagadish said, BIRRD has introduced the Russian- based Illizrov Ring Fixator technology to treat the patients suffering from birth anomalies, bone deformation, open fractures etc. since 1992 and treated thousands of patients free of cost proving them a new lease of life in the last 22 years. However in India a Pune based industry started manufacturing ortho-suv frames for correcting deformities. The equipments included hinges and struts and we have adopted this indigenous machines in 2014 which is an advanced technology to carry out surgeries”, the Director added.
Elaborating further he said, for the first time in the entire southern India a workshop on orthopaedic surgeries is being organised and the PG doctors who are already aware of Illizrov technology took part in this workshop. “The aim of this workshop is to train the doctors more in this technology so as to carry out surgeries to the poor with more effectiveness”, he maintained.
Renowned Ortho Specialists, Dr Gupta from New Delhi and Dr Mangal Parihar from Mumbai divided the doctors into teams and carried out workshop through PowerPoint presentation and practical models.
Dr. Venka Reddy, Dr Srinivas were also present.
