BRAHMOTSAVAMS IN TARIGONDA FROM FEB 26 TO MARCH 6

TIRUMALA, FEB 25: The temple administration of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTDs) will perform the annual Brahmotsavams at Tarigonda Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple from February 26 to March 6 in a grand manner.

After the initiatory ritual ‘Ankurarpanam’ on February 25 which were observed on Wednesday, the major events to be observed during the nine-day event are Dhwajarohanam (February 26), Kalyanotsavam and Garuda Seva (March 3), Rathotsavam and Dhooli Utsavam (March 4), Dhwajavarohanam (March 6), Pushpa Yagam (March 9).

As the name ‘Tarigonda’ rings a bell, it is the native place of the revolutionary saint-poetess Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba, who made compositions on Lord Venkateswara and pioneered Annaprasadam distribution.

According to scriptures, the temple was consecrated by sage Durvasa, while it was developed during the Chola regime.

Meanwhile married couples (Grihasthas) can take part in the Kalyanotsavam on March 6 at 8 p.m. by paying Rs.300. Hindu Dharma Prachara Parishat and Annamacharya Project will conduct spiritual and cultural programmes everyday during the festival.
