“BRAHMOTSAVAMS”-THE NINE-DAY CELESTIAL VISUAL SPECTACLE TAKES OFF WITH CHINNA SESHA VAHANAM
Tiruchanur, 26 November 2016: “Brahmotsavams”, the nine-day spiritual annual event of the Universal Mother Goddess Sri Padmavathi Devi at Tiruchanur commenced on a grand religious note with the beautiful goddess taking an elegant ride on the five hooded serpent King Chinna Sesha Vahanam on Saturday night.
The unique feature of the Navahnika Brahmotsavams of Tiruchaur is that Goddess Padmavathi is the only female goddess who takes ride on various vahanams during nine days on par with Lord Venkateswara f Tirumala. This fete is considered to be one of the most colourful festivals observed in the country with utmost pomp and gaiety.
“BRAHMA” MEANS “NINE”
In Sanskri, “Brahma” means “Nine”. So Brahmotsavams is a nine-day festival performed every year during auspicious Karthika month in such a way that they conclude on Panchami tithi, which happens to be the incarnation day of Goddess Mahalakshmi as Goddess Padmavathi Devi in this famed pilgrim centre of Tiruchanur.
SIGNIFICANCE:
There is an importance associated with Goddess Padmavathi, who is believed to be the incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi and serpent King vasuki.
During samudra Madhanam episode, when the deities and demons were churning the milk ocean for divine nectar, they used Serpent Vasuki as rope. While doing so Goddess Maha Lakshmi emerged out from the ocean.
By taking ride on this vehicle, the Goddess enlightens pilgrims, that in spite of his mightiness, Vasuki Naga remained humble and patient for a good cause while Devatas and Asuras were churning the milk ocean using him as rope. So it gives a clear message that it is not our mightiness that makes us great but our patience and politeness.
