DELHITES SHOWER IN THE DIVINE BATH OF “ABHISHEKA SEVA” OF MULVIRAT

NOVEMBER 6, NEW DELHI: It has been a big day on Friday for the denizens of Delhi as every pair of eyes was awestruck by the visual treat of Purabhishka seva performed to the main deity of Lord Venkateswara as a part of Sri Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavams in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here.

In Tirumala temple on every Friday after Suprabhatha Seva, Srivari Abhishekam is being observed with religious fervour. It is considered to be the most ancient Arjitha Seva amongst the other sevas that are being performed in the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara.

The Abhishekam in Tirumala starts with Sacred water brought from Akasa Ganga Theertham, then with Milk, then with Suddhodakam, Chandanam and other scented articles like powdered Pachcha Karpooram, Saffron paste and drops of civet oil etc., which are brought earlier in the silver vessels.

The same episode with the sacred Parimala water has been replicated in the spacious stadium on Seventh Day of Sri Venkateswara Vaibhavotsavams in the nation’s capital city.

While performing the Abhishekam to the Moola Virat, Purshasukta, Narayanasukta, Srisukta, Bhusuktha, Neelasuktha and selected Pasurams from the Divya Pradbandham were all recited by the priests. Later, the Abhishekam was also performed for the image of Goddess Lakshmi on His chest (Vakshasthala Lakshmi) with Turmeric Paste.

HISTORY OF ABHISHEKA SEVA:

In the year 966A.D. a Pallava Queen “Samaavai” gifted the present silver idol of Bhoga Sinivasa Murthy to the temple. This idol is exact miniature replica of the main vigraha. The year when she gifted, it was on Jyestha Bahula Tritheeya when Sravana star was in the ascendant in Akshya Year and it was on Friday.

While installing the Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy idol in the Sanctum, an Abhishekam was performed to the main deity also. Thus, started the practice of doing Abhishekam to Moola Virat on every Friday

Meanwhile, the devotees were spell bound by the magic of Poorabhishekam and after the seva, some devotees expressed that their lives have been sanctified after witnessing the grand sacred bath ceremony that was being rendered to Lord Venkateswara at their home town.

TTD Board Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurhty, Tiruapti JEO Sri P Bhaskar, TTD Board Member Sri Bhanuprakash Reddy were also present.
