TIRUPATI, 18 JANUARY 2024: The TTD-run Super Specialty Hospital of Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) made a historical feat by successfully taking up tri-organ transplantation, the first of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh in Government Hospitals.

Elucidating the organ transplantations to the media in detail at the SVIMS Auditorium on Thursday evening, the Director SVIMS Prof.RV Kumar said, the tri-organs of Heart, Liver, and Kidneys have belonged to a brain-dead 24-year old Engineering student, Sri Gollapalli Hema Kumar, who succumbed to a road accident held on January 11. He said almost Rs. One crore worth of tri transplantations were carried out for free under Arogyasri, and Jeevandaan schemes besides support from TTD to the economically poor needy patients.

TTD JEO for Health and Education Smt Sada Bhargavi congratulated the entire Medical fraternity for the achievement. She lauded the commitment of Doctors for their efforts in carrying out the first liver transplantation in a successful manner. She said upon the directives of the Honourable CM of AP Sri YS Jaganmohan Reddy, under the Chairmanship of Sri Karunakara Reddy in the guidance of TTD EO Sri AV Dharma Reddy, the SVIMS medical fraternity led by its Director Prof. RV Kumar has made a historical achievement.

She also said SVIMS is coming out with an action plan to take up more outreach programs on Organ Donation. She said organ donation saves more lives and the deceased donor stays immortal in the heart.

The Chief of the superspecialty hospital, thanked the farmers couple, for their generosity in donating the organs of their deceased son to the needy. The Director specially thanked the sister of the deceased boy, who works at Ruia Government Hospital for educating her parents on organ donation.

Later the team of doctors who performed the strenuous tri-transplantations for about 4-8hours unequivocally stated that this was a historical operation in the Government Hospitals and SVIMS successfully performed this rare feat and thanked the support of TTD for providing the necessary infrastructure, equipment, etc. in the hospital on par with the corporate hospitals.

Before commencing the press briefing, everyone observed a two-minute silence in respect of the deceased organ donor whose heart was transplanted at SP Children’s Heart Centre, Kidney and a Liver at SVIMS.

Doctors team included, Medical Superintendent Dr. Ram, Dr Anil Kumar, Dr Srinath Reddy, Dr Venkatrami Reddy, Dr Alok Samant Roy, Dr Rajinikanth, and Dr Selva Kumar from Global Hospitals, strived for two days with a clear-cut action plan to make the Tri transplantation a success.

Nursing Chief Smt Prabhavati, paramedics, and technicians were also present.
