FLOAT FESTIVAL TO MUSE PILGRIMS FROM MARCH 8 – 12

Tirumala , 7 March 17: The five-day celestial annual Teppotsavam (Float Festival) of Lord Venkateswara is set to enthrall the visiting pilgrims in hill town of Tirumala from March 8 to 12.

It is in this unique festival the processional deities, will be taken out on the glittering and colorfully decorated floats in the Swami Pushkarini commencing on the Ekadasi day of Palguna month every year in the evening hours.

The holy float festival made its beginning in 1468 when the Saluva King Narasimha raya built the Nirali Mandapam amidst the Swami Pushkarini. As per the tradition the Utsava idols in the Sri Ramachandra murthy along with Goddess Sita and Lakshmana Swamy will go around three rounds on the first day in the holy temple tank.

On Day-two, the float will go round for three rounds carrying the deities of lord Sri krishna along with Goddess Rukmini. On the last three dyas, Sri Malayappaswamy along with His consorts Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi will go for a pleasant float ride. On the third day, the deities will enjoy three rounds, five rounds on Day-four and seven rounds on the last day blessing the devotees.

In view of the unique and glittering Float festival, TTD has cancelled arjitha sevas including vasanthotsavam and Sahasra deepalankarana sevas on March 8 and 9 and arjitha brahmotsavam, Vasantotsavam and Sahasradeepalankara sevas on March 10,11 and 12.

In connection with Float Festival, TTD has also cancelled Pournami Garuda Seva on March 12.
