FLORAL FESTIVAL PERFORMED IN HILL SHRINE

Tirumala, 7 November 2016: The annual Pushpayaga Mahotsavam was celebrated with religious fervour in a befitting manner to Lord Sri Malayapppa Swamy and His two consorts Sri Devi and Bhu Devi in the hill temple of Tirumala on Monday.

PUSHPAYAGAM ON SHRAVANA NAKSHATRAM

This annual festival to Lord is usually performed after annual Srivari brahmotsavams in the month of Karthika which falls in October or November every year on the holy day of Shravana Nakshatram which happens to be the birth star of Lord Venkateswara.

SNAPANA TIRUMANJANAM PERFORMED

Earlier during the day, after the second archana, second bell and naivedyam, the processional deity of Lord Malayappa Swamy flanked by Sridevi and Bhudevi on His either sides, was brought to Kalyana Mandapam located inside Sampangi prakaram. Later the Ritwiks performed Snapana Tirumanjanam with milk, coconut water, curd, honey, turneric and sandal paste in a spiritual manner chanting Sri, Bhu, Purusha Suktams.

PROCESSION OF FLOWERS

About seven tonnes of various traditional and ornamental flowers which are used in Pushpayagam were brought to the temple in a ceremonious procession from Garden department. Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju and other temple officials took part in this colourful fete.

FESTIVAL OF FLOWERS OBSERVED

After the snapanam, the deities are decorated in new silk clothes and Pushpayagam was performed in a ceremonious way with 18 types of different varieties of flowers including lilies, chrysanthemum, Roses, Maruvam, Damanam, Pachhaku, Mogali etc. The celestial fete completed till the deities were immersed bed of flowers upto neck depth.

VISUAL TREAT

The annual pushpayagam is one of the most colourful festivals that is being performed in Tirumala. The live telecast of the event in SVBC between 1pm to 5pm provided visual treat to millions of devotees present across the globe. According to inscriptions this festival was in practice in 15th Century in Tirumala. However, TTD revived this celestial fete in 1980.
