GAJA LAKSHMI RIDES ON GAJA VAHANAM

Tiruchnoor, 30 Nov. 16: The elegant Gaja Lakhshmi has taken a majestic ride on the mighty elephant vahanam on the pleasant night of fifth day during the ongoing annual karthika brahmotsavams of Goddess Padmavathi Devi at Tiruchanoor.

SIGNIFICANCE: Like Garuda Vahana to Lord Venkateswara, Gaja Vahana is considered as the most important vehicle to Goddess Padmavathi Devi during annual brahmotsavams.

In one of the Maha Lakshmi Stotrams it has been mentioned as

“Kanthya Kanchana Sannibham Himagiri Prabhaim Mukhyaiam Chaturbhirgajaihi”

According to Vedanta Desikan in Sri Stuti, Gaja Rajas performed abhishekam to Goddess Maha Lakshmi as soon as she emerged out of the milk ocean.

The Pancharatra Agama describes that the four Gajas serving Goddess Padmavathi Devi, the incarnation of Goddess Maha Lakshmi implies four vedas.

Usually Gaja-the elephant is considered as the symbol of wealth, majesty and Richness. Goddess Lakshmi being the deity of Universal Riches, seated majestically on the mighty Gaja Vahanam decked with Sahasranama Kasula Haram brought from Tirumala, especially for this auspicious occasion.

By taking an enjoyable ride on the colossal swarna Gaja Vahanam, the Goddess blesses Her devotees to be as Gaja.
