“HARIKATHA IS THE BEST MEDIUM FOR SANATANA DHARMA PRACHARA”-TTD EO

Tirupati, 18 August 2014: TTD EO Sri Mukkamala Giridhara Gopal on Monday said Sri Maddajjada Adibhatla Narayana Das pioneered Harikatha as a medium for Bhakti propagation and laid a strong foundation to the future generations to take up the dharmic publicity activity in a wide range manner from grass root level.

Addressing the inaugural session of the week-long 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Sri Maddajjada Adibhatla Narayana Das in Mahati Auditorium on Monday evening, the EO said, born in the year 1864 in Vizianagaram district Adibhatla emerged as a multifaceted personality and penned various books and composed music to various kritis. His overall talent mused many people and inspired many to take Harikatha as a profession in later years.

EO said, the path laid by Narayanadas has made Harikatha so popular in the southern belt especially in Telugu speaking states. But due to the advent of electronic medium, the traditional art like Harikatha has taken a back seat. But with the governments taking up this as their prime publicity medium to bring awareness among the masses on various developmental programmes, Harikatha again gained importance.

The EO called upon the budding artistes who has chosen Harikatha as a profession to follow the foot steps of Narayana Das and sustain the glory of Harikatha.

Later Tirupati JEO Sri P Bhaskar said, Harikatha is the best medium even to bring awareness among a illiterate person. He said Narayanadas has written Janaki Sapatham, Bhakta Markandeya Charitra, Rukmini Kalyanam, Savitri Charitra and many others which were some of the masterpieces of his talent.

They all had a social message which has a great positive impact on the society in those days. The young artistes should take such stalwarts as inspiration and enliven the art”, he added.

Later the EO and JEO felicitated renowned Harikatha Maestro and former HDPP Secretary Dr HS Brahmananda on this occasion.

TTD CAO(Chief Audit Officer) Sri Sesha Sailendra, SV College of Music and Dance Principal Smt YVS Padmavathi and others were also present.
