KOIL ALWAR TIRUMANJANAM IN TIRUMALA ON DECEMBER 30
TIRUMALA, DEC 30, 2014: In connection with the auspicious religious event of Vaikuntha Ekadasi which is falling on the first day of the New Year in 2015 on Januray 1, the ceremonious cleansing event of Koil Alwar Tirumanajanam took place in Srivari temple at Tirumala on Tuesday.
This periodical festival is usually performed four times in a year before four important religious occasions including Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Vaikunta Ekadasi and the annual Brahmotsavams in Tirumala temple.
In this unique religious exercise, the main deity was shielded with a water-proof cover and all the idols were removed from the sanctum sanctorum.
The entire sanctum sanctorum was then thoroughly pumped with water and smeared with a aromatic paste containing high quality sandalwood powder, refined turmeric, camphor, saffron, vermilion, a root vegetable called “Kicchiligadda” and other ingredients which act as disinfectants.
Over 500 employees of TTD took part in this ceremonious temple cleansing festival.
TTD Executive Officer Dr Sambhasiva Rao, Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Temple DyEO Sri Chinnamgari Ramana, Temple Peishkar Sri R Selvam and others took part.
TTD has cancelled Asthadala Pada Padmaradhana in connection with this festival. The darshan to pilgrims will resume after 12noon on Tuesday.
