KOIL ALWAR TIRUMANJANAM ON JULY 15

Tirumala, 9 July 2014: As a prelude to annual the annual festival of Anivara Asthanam (annual accounting of the temple) on July 17, the temple cleansing festival-Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam will be performed at the temple of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala on July 15.

In view of festival, all the arjitha sevas performed in Tirumala temple have been cancelled. The holy cleansing programme will commence by 6am and conclude by 11am on Tuesday.

Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, which is an age old ritual, is being performed at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara four times in a year – before Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Brahmotsavamas and Vaikuntha Ekadasi day.\

Koil means ‘Holy Shrine’. Alwar means “Devotee”. So this is the festival where devotee gets an opportunity to cleanse the entire shrine.(This festival is not open to pilgrims. Only the temple staff are allowed to cleanse the temple)

As part of Koil Tirumanjanam, the premises of sanctorum and the entire garbhagriham, including floors, ceilings and walls also will be cleaned and brushed well with water. The whole place was smeared with kunkum, champor, sandal paste, saffron and turmeric. After purificatory pujas, Naivedyams will be offered to the presiding deity. The pilgrims are allowed for darshan of Lord only after 12noon.
