KOIL ALWAR TIRUMANJANAM PERFORMED IN SRI TT

TIRUMALA, 28 MARCH 2017: In connection with Sri Hemalambi Nama Samvatsara Telugu Ugadi on March 29, Koil Alwar Tirumanajanam, the temple cleansing activity has been observed with religious ecstacy in Sri Tirumala Temple on Tuesday.

Speaking on this occasion after the ceremonious Tirumanjanam, the TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao, said Koil Alwar means ‘Holy Shrine’. Tirumanjanam is cleansing. The main purpose of performing Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is purification of sanctum sanctorum and temple premises. This is performed four times in a year before Telugu Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Annual Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadasi.

Elaborating further the EO said, keeping the temple premises clean provides an aesthetic atmosphere to all the devotees. “I wish all the devotees should keep the premises of the temples in their native places clean to enhance the spiritual environment”, EO added.

During the ceremony all the Murtis and other articles are removed from sanctum sanctorum and the mula murti is covered with water- proof covering. The entire Garbhalayam, including floors, ceilings and walls are then cleaned and brushed well with plenty of water. The whole place is then smeared with Vermilion, Turmeric, Camphor, Sandal paste, Saffron, Kichiligadda mixture which acts as disinfectant. The covering on the main deity is then removed and the deities, deepam and other articles are replaced inside. Purification pujas and Naivedyams are the offered to the deity and then pilgrims are allowed for darshan. This takes place between 6am to 10am in Tirumala temple.

The same was observed in Tirumala temple by the temple staff of TTD. The temple management has cancelled astadala pada padmaradhana seva in connection with this festival.

Bhanu Prakash Reddy, Dr P Hariprasad, Smt Sudha Narayanamurthy, Sri Narsa Reddy, Sri Ramachandra Reddy were also took part in the fete.
