LORD TAKES RIDE ON “ADHIKARANANDI” IN THE MORNING

Tirupati, 4 March 2016: The processional deity of Lord Shiva took celestial ride on Adhikara Nandi vahanamon Friday morning along the streets surrounding the temple amidst the chanting of “Hara Hara Mahadeva Sambho Sankara” slogans reverberating all through the procession.

There are many interesting stories elucidating the importance of Adhikara Nandi. According to Lingapurana, Nandi has a dark complexion, has four hands carrying weapons including Shula, Gadha, Tanka and Vajra and has three eyes making sounds that of a dark cloud.

There are several other stories about Nandi’s origin. According to one, Nandi was a rishi (sage) who performed such severe austerities that Shiva granted him the wish of becoming the head of his Ganas. Hence he is considered as the favourite vehicle of Lord.

DyEO Sri Balaji, AEO Sri Subramanyam, Temple Inspector Sri Srinivasulu, Exe Engineer Sri Jagadeeswara Reddy and others took part in the event.
