NRISIMHA JAYANTHI IN TIRUMALA ON MAY 9

Tirumala, 8 May 2017: The annual festival of Nrisimha Jayanthi will be observed in Tirumala temple with religious fervour on May 9. On the auspicious occasion with the advent of Swathi Nakshatra in Vaisakha month, this religious fete is observed.

In this connection special Abhishekam will be performed to the presiding deity of Sri Yoga Narasimha Swamy, the sub-shrine located inside Tirumala temple on Tuesday night between 7pm and 8pm.

The sub-temple for Sri Yoga Narasimhaswami, facing the west, is located in a mandapam in the north-eastern corner of the first prakaram. The idol of Yoga Narasimhaswami is sculptured according to the Sastras. He is seated with two hands on his knees, and girdled by the Yogapatta.

The statue is said to have consecrated by Sri Ramanujacharya and the temple is said to have been built between 1330 A.D. – 1360 A.D. Lord Narasimha Swami is usually an aggressive Half-Man and Half-Animal form of the Lord. He is seen sitting in meditating posture which is unique to this temple alone.
