Tirupati, 22 November 2022: The annual Navahnika Karthika Brahmotsavams of Sri Padmavati Ammavaru Temple at Tiruchanoor is being observed as a mega religious fete akin to Tirumala Srivari Brahmotsavmas with utmost spiritual fervour.
As the annual brahmotsavams in Tirumala are being performed as per the traditions of the Vaikhanasa Agama, the nine-day festival of Sri Padmavathi Ammavaru are being observed as per the tenets of Pancharathra Agama, which has its own unique norms and practices.
SIGNIFICANCE OF PANCHARATRA AGAMA:
It is said that the Pancharatha Agama is framed on the direct dictation of the presiding deity of Sri Padmavathi Devi on how to perform Archanas, daily rituals, special rituals, annual festivals etc. It also laid down norms to be followed by Kankana Bhattar, the religious person, who supervises all the rituals and also the duties and functions of the Yajamani (temple chief).
MEANING OF PANCHARATHRA
“Pancha” means five and “Rathra” means Nights. Each day is dedicated to a specific deity and during these five nights the Serpent King Ananta, the king of aves-Garukmanta, the commander in chief of Sri Venkateswara-Viswakshenai, the creator- Chaturmukha Brahma, and the supreme lord-Parameswara are invoked. The Naradiya Samhita describes “Pancharatra” as five types of knowledge.
200 PUJA VIDHIS IN PANCHARATRA
It is a divine science to ward off the ignorance of the human beings in service of Lord. The Pancharatha Agamas also explains nearly 200 puja methods as engraved in the Sri Padma Samhita, Naradiya Samhita and many other epics. It is the compendium of traditions and practices now being followed in daily rituals at Sri Padmavati Ammavari Temple.
All the Utsavavams, Brahmotsvams, Teppotsavams, Vasantotsavams, Navaratri Utsavams, Sundararaja Swamivari Avatarotsavams, Nitya utsavavams, Granahanams, all Arjita sevas etc. in the temple are performed adhering to the norms of the Pancharathra Agama in Tiruchanoor temple.
IMPORTANCE OF CHATUSTARCHANA
The Chatustarchana ritual has a great significance in the Sri Padmavati Ammavari Temple during annual Brahmotsavams. This event is performed every day at the Yagashala between 5am and 6 AM and again between 4pm and 5.30pm by the temple archakas. The objective of the ritual is to ward off the evil forces in the society and ensure the conduct of Navahnika Karthika Brahmotsavams in a hassle-free manner.
Among the various festivals and religious events which are being observed all through the year in Tiruchanoor, the annual Brahmotavams of Goddess Padmavathi who is credited and revered as “Sarva Swatantra Veera Lakshmi” are considered the most important as the Goddess of Riches in all Her religious splendour takes out majestic ride on various carriers during these nine days to bless Her devotees with good fortunes.
