HOLY THREE DAY PAVITHROTSAVAM KICKS OFF AT SRIVARI TEMPLE

Tirumala, 14 August 2016: The annual Pavitrotsavam kicked off at Srivari Temple on Sunday with a colourful and glittering ritual to the reciting of Vedic hymns as per agama traditions.

The priests will adorn yellow silk robes and perform Pavitra harati to the main deity and the main events of Pavitrotsavam will commence from at the Yaga shala inside the temple complex. As part of festival the snapana Tirumanjanam event was performed for the utsava idol of Sri Malayappaswamy in the yagashala from 9 to 11 AM.

In the evening after a Vishesha Puja ,the utsava idol it was taken out along with consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi in procession on the four mada streets to bless the devotees who had thronged in large numbers due to spree of holidays.

Nearly 450 festivals were conducted at the Srivari temple throughout the year. The three day Pavitrotsavam is of great significance as per Agama shastras as it is performed with the objective of cleansing the temple as per Agamas of all lapses inadvertently committed during the course of the rituals throughout the year and safe guard the sanctity of the temple.

In view of the Pavitrotsavam the routine arjita sevas in the Srivari temple like the Vishesha Puja, Astadala padapadmarathana, Kalyanotsavam, Arjita Brahmotsavam, Unjal seva, Vasantotsavam, Sahastradipalankara sevas were suspended by the TTD from August 14-16. The routine Archana and Tomala sevas for the deity will be performed in Ekanta on those days.
