SPECIAL SAHASRA KALASABHISHEKAM IN TIRUMALA ON JUNE 24

Tirumala, 12 June 2017: The temple management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) will observe special Sahasra Kalasabhishekam on June 24 to commemorate the historical occasion of the gifting of silver idol of Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy to the hill temple of Lord Venkateswara by the Pallava Queen Samavai (Perundevi) in 614 AD.

The special ritual will be observed at Bangaru Vakili between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. after the completion of religious formalities.
While the arjitha sevas like Kalyanotsavam, Unjalseva, arjitha brahmotsavam, vasanthotsavam and sahasradeepalankara seva will take place as usual on that day.

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE: In the month of Jyestha, in the year 614 A.D., the Pallava Queen Samavai Perundevi donated 18 inches tall silver idol of Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy to Tirumala Shrine. This silver idol is part of the Pancha Beras and it is also known as ‘Kautuka Bera’ in Agamic jargon. It is also called “Manavalapperumal”

To commemorate this auspicious day of consecration of the silver idol, Special Sahasra Kalasabhishekam is performed to Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy idol in the morning after I bell. This is performed as Ekantham and this is not an Arjitha Seva like the wednesdayweekly Sahasra Kalasabhishekam. TTD has been observing this fete since 2006.
