“THE ESSENCE OF PURANDHARA DASA KEERTHANS SHOULD REACH THE YOUTH”-TTD EO

TIRUMALA, JAN 30:  TTD EO Sri MG Gopal while recalling the rich literary contributions made by “Kannada Padakavitha Pithamaha”, Saint Poet Sri Purandhara Dasa said, that the essence of his musical notes should reach the youth to become the good citizens of this great country.

Addressing the Aradhana Mahotsavams of Saint Purandhara Dasa at Narayanagiri Gardens in Tirumala on Thursday, the EO said, the great soul was born in 1484AD in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Purandhara Dasa who was a miser till half of his life time, attained wisdom after realizing his mistake and became an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara. He has penned over 4.75lakh keertans in praise of Lord Venkateswara in his 80 years of span before he attained salvation in 1564AD. He is often believed to be the incarnation of Saint Narada who also happens to be the grandson of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu.

Dasa Sahitya Project Special Officer Sri Ananda Teerthacharyulu said, the Aradhanotsavams have been observed on a grand scale at ten places in AP, Karnataka and Tamilnadu states. From the past ten days we have been organising the spiritual  programmes in a big way in Raichur, Bangalore, Hospet, Hampi, Chennai, Mettur, Rajamundry, Hyderabad, Tirupati and Tirumala. Over 2000 dasa bhaktas took part in this fete”, he added.

Meanwhile the day began with the garlanding of Purarandara statue at Alipiri in Tirupati at 6 a.m. followed by diverse programmes at TTD’s Asthana Mandapam in Tirumala, including community bhajans, nagara sankeertanams, spiritual discourses and Antyakshari. The Utsava murthies after Sahasra Deepalankara Seva were taken on a procession to Narayanagiri Gardens and Unjal seva has been performed.

Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, DyEO Parakamani Sri Kodanda Rama Rao, Temple Peishkar Sri Selvam and others were also present. The Unjal Seva of Lord followed by cultural programmes enthralled the devotees.
