“THE PERIOD OF CARNATIC MUSIC TRINITY IS GOLDEN ERA IN INDIAN MUSIC”-MUSIC COLLEGE PRINCIPAL

Tirupati, 11 March 2014: The Principal of TTD-run Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance Smt YVS Padmavathi advocated that the period of Carnatic Music Trinity-Sri Thyagaraja Swamy, Sri Muttuswamy Dikshitar and Sri Syama Sastry is said to be a golden era in the history of Indian traditional music.

Addressing media persons in the college on the inaugural day of Carnatic Music Trinity Festival in Tirupati on Tuesday, the Principal said, as a tribute to their impeccable contributions TTD is celebrating a two-day musical fete in the college premises. “While Sri Syama Shastry was the emperor of Raga, Sri Thyagaraja pioneered Swara and Sri Muttuswamy Dikshitar immortalised the world of Shabda and hence they are considered to be the “Trinity of Carnatic Sangeetha”, she added.

Meanwhile the students and faculty members have rendered 108 keertans by these three stalwarts of Carnatic music from 8am to 10pm on Tuesdayand will repeat the same fete with different kritis on Wednesday also.

The premises of the college and surroundings echoed with the melodious tunes of the Keertans penned by the Sangeetha Trinity in the voice and instruments of the students and faculty members in Tirupati.
