THRAIMASIKA SRI VARI METLOTSAVAM

Tirupati, 02 July 2011: Thousands of Dasa devotees took part in ‘Metlotsavam’, the festival of steps, which began on Saturday. The event is conducted by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management through Dasa Sahitya Project. ‘Bhajan’ troupes from all over South India, especially from across the Kannada land, are organised and brought under one roof to take part in the ritual every year.

The devotees started their holy trek from Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple here and went in a procession by Singing ‘bhajans’ on the glory of Lord Srinivasa amid the rhythmic beating of traditional drums and cymbals to IIIrd Choultary. The male devotees were clad in traditional Dasa attire of yellow or saffron dhothis, while women wore bright yellow saris. 

Dr. N.Yuvaraj, Joint Executive Officer, TTDs, Dasa Sahitya Project coordinator P.R. Ananda Theerthacharya spoke on the activities of the project. The devotees will take part in similar rituals in the local temples and trek the Tirumala footpath in the early hours of Monday.
