TTD ENTERS MoU WITH KOLKATA BASED SOLAR POWER FIRM

Tiruapti, 19 December 2015: With an aim to reduce carbon footprint and make Tirumala environs more eco-friendly, TTD has entered MoU with a Kolkata-based Solar Power firm to set up 10MWP solar power plant at Kosuvaripalle in Tamballapalle in Chittoor district.

As part of this ambitious programme, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has leased out 66.67acres of its land to Messers Vikram Solar Private Limited for a period of 20 years for the lowest rate per unit ever in the entire country on Saturday at the rate of Rs.4.49Ps per unit.

Speaking on this occasion in his chambers in TTD administrative building in Tirupati on Saturday evening, TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao said, Based on the Build-Operate-Own-Trasfer(BOOT) basis, the firm will generate a minimum of 1.55crore units of assured power per year. The savings when adjusted for 11kv tariff will be Rs.4.27crores per annum approximately. At present we are generating 1.2crore units of power energy through windmills. With this project now we could be able to meet about 66-70% of power needs of Tirumala. We have asked the firm to complete the project within six months and after the completion of the lease period they will handover the land in the same working condition to TTD”, he added.

Adding further the EO said, this project will not only act as non-polluting green energy source but also enhance the self sufficiency of non-conventional power generation in Tirumala.

TTD Chief Engineer Sri Chandra Sekhar Reddy, Additional FACAO Sri Balaji, SE Electricals Sri Venkateswarulu, Vikram Solar Director Sri Krishna Kumar Maskara, General Manager Sri N Venkateshwaran Raju were also present.
