TTD EO’S HISTORICAL DECISION – TWENTY KALYANAKATTA BARBERS GETS PROMOTION
TIRUMALA, MAY 23: In a historical decision, the first of its kind, TTD Executive Officer Dr D Samba Siva on Saturday issued promotion orders to twenty Kalyanakatta barbers and promoted them as “Maistries”.
The barbers who got promoted expressed their happiness and thanked the Executive Officer for his gesture. They said this is the first time the barbers are promoted in the last three and a half decades. It will definitely boost their enthusiasm to render better services to the multitude of visiting pilgrims with more dedication.

RECORD NUMBER OF PILGRIMS OFFER HAIR TO LORD
Meanwhile, about 60,948 pilgrims offered their hair in kalyanakattas in Tirumala on Friday setting an all-time new record.
According to Deputy Executive Officer of Kalyanakatta Smt Baby Sarojini, usually 50% of pilgrims of the total number of pilgrims who come for the darshan of Lord Venkateswara tonsure their heads to fulfil their wish. But Friday, May 22 has witnessed an incredible achievement of about 82% pilgrims offering their hair. Out of a total number 73, 689 pilgrims who had darshan of Lord Venkateswara on Friday, 60,948 pilgrims tonsured their heads including three scissors”, she maintained.
While on Saturday, as per the statistics recorded from 3am to 3pm nearly 36,909 pilgrims tonsured their heads in a span of just 12 hours which is also a new record. About 1043 barbers have been deployed to work round the clock to offer tonsuring services to pilgrims by TTD.
