TTD TAKES OVER TENTH CENTURY TEMPLE IN NELLORE DISTRICT

Nellore, 9 December 2016: The temple management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) has taken over the ancient temple constructed between 10th and 11th centuries Sri Azaghu Mallari Krishna Swamy temple in Mannarpolur is a small village on the banks of ‘Kalindi’ river near Sullurpeta in Nellore District.

TTD Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy and TTD Tirupati JEO Sri P Bhaskar took part in this ceremonial event on friday. The Executive Officer of the ancient temple Sri Srinivasulu Reddy has handed over the papers to TTD which was under the purview of Endowments Department.

Later speaking on this occasion, the TTD board chief said, this small village of Mannapolur used to be a central place for pilgrimage proceeding in different directions. It is believed that this temple was constructed by the Cholas around the 10th and 11th century and was improved upon by the ‘Manumasiddi’ rulers of Nellore around the 13th century. “Today TTD has taken over this temple and will develop to bring back its past glory”, he asserted.

Tirupati JEO Sri P Bhaskar said, one of the chief objectives of TTD is to preserve, promote and protect the rich heritage and culture of our temples. “As a part of this mission, we have taken over this ancient temple today”, he maintained.
