UNIQUE ADHYAYANOTSAVAM AT SRIVARI SANNIDHI FROM DEC 28

· Jeeyangars to lead parayanam of Divya Alwar Prabandhams for 25 days
· Adhyayanotsavams practiced since 1360 at Srivari Temple

Tirumala, 25 Dec. 16: As per traditional practice during Dhanurmasam, the ritual of Adhyayanotsavam will commence at Srivari temple from December 28- January 21, 2017 this season.

The Adhyayanotsavams is normally practiced by the Srivaishana Jeeyangars 11 days ahead of Vaikunta Ekadasi with the parayanam of Divya Prabandam composed by 12 Alwars in the Srivari Temple. For 25 days the 4000 couplets of Divya Prabandam will be recited at the Ranganayukala mandapam from Wednesday, December 28.

It is said that the first phase of ten days prior to Vaikunta Ekadasi is called Pagal Pattu and the second phase of chanting is done at nights and called Rapathu. Sathu murai of Ramanuja Venkatadri and Updesha Ratnamala will be recited in the remaining days and the Adhyayanotsavams will conclude with the Tiruppalandu Todakkam ritual.

As mentioned in the rock inscriptions of 1253 and 1360, 1446 the Adhyayanotsavams was initiated at Tirumala by Tirumangai Alwars, Nathamuni and Bhagavad Ramanujacharya,

The unique ritual has a special place in the Agama traditions practiced by the Sri Vaikhanasa sect of Sri Vaishnavite temples.
