UNIQUENESS OF DHANURMASA KAINKARYAM

Tirumala, 19 December 2016: The holy month of Dhanurmasa is considered highly auspicious in Sri Vaishanvaite temples and is observed with religious aplomb in the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara. The kainkaryams, decorations to lord, naivedyams offered during this entire month occupies a unique place.

‘MOOGA TOMALA’ PERFORMED

In this month there will be no regular thomala seva where usually the Jeeyar Gosthi is common in normal days. During this month special thomala is observed in silence and it is known as “Mooga Thomala”.

BEL LEAVES REPLACES TULASI

Usually during Sahasranamarchana Srivari Dhruva Beram is worshipped with Tulasi leaves amidst recital of 1008 names during eleven months in a year except on Dhanurmasa where the Sahasranamarchana is carried out with Bel leaves (Bilwa leaves).

According to Vaikhanasa Bhrigu Samhita, the eight types of auspicious flowers used in worshipping Lord Vishnu includes Nandivardanam, Padmam, Tulasi, Vishnu Pamika, Bilwam, Ganneru, Kumudam and Metta Tamara.

LORD ADORNED WITH THREE PARROTS

The quintessential beauty of Lord Venkateswara enhances in the auspicious Dhanurmasa, with the devotees cherishing the unique glimpse of Lord, who is adorned with three sacred parrots during Dhanuramasa Aradhana.

At the end of Dhanuramsa Aradhana Srivari Mula Virat is decorated with flower garlands and there will be no special decoration of flowers during regular Thomala Seva. Three parrots adorn to lord gather the attraction in this month.

Out of the three two are specially made of leaves while one diamond studded gold parrot. Of the two parrots one is specially made from Srivilliputtur Andal Sannidhi which occupies the left bosom of presiding deity while another is made by TTD garden department, also seated on left side near Conch. While the diamond studded gold parrot sits pretty on right bosom of Lord throughout Dhanurmasam.

SPECIAL FOOD OFFERINGS

During this holy month jaggery dosa, mudgannam, sundal, seera are offered daily to Lord as Dhanurmasa Naivedyam.

EKANTA SEVA TO KRISHNA SWAMY

Usually ekanta seva is performed to Sri Bhoga Srinivasa Murthy. But during this month, it is performed to Sri Krishna Swamy and this last sequence of worship in vaikhanasa agama is called Panyankasana or Ekanta Seva or Sayanasana.
