VENGAMAMBA JAYANTHI OBSERVED IN TIRUPATI

Tirupati, 20 May 2016: Vengamamba enlightened the masses with her simple literary works which is understood even by general masses, said TTD All Projects Special Officer Sri N Muktheswara Rao.

In connection with the 286th Jayanthi of Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba, TTD has organized literary programme in Annamacharya Kalamandiram on Friday in Tirupati. Speaking on this occasion, Sri Rao in his inaugural address said, Vengamamba and Annamacharya dedicated their lives in the service of Lord Venkateswara with their outstanding literary works.

“Vengamamba pioneered women empowerment in those days itself. She was not only a saint poetess but also a social reformer. She fought against all social odds existed in those days and penned five works in Tarigonda and 13 in Tirumala during her life time”, he added.

Vengamamba Project co-ordinator Dr KJ Krishnamurthy said among the several literary works, the Venkatachala Mahatyam penned by Vengamamba consisting of 1600 poems stood versatile.

Scholars Dr Krishnaveni, Dr S Naresh also spoke on this occasion.
Earlier in the morning, floral garlands were offered to the statue of Saint Poetess Vengamamba in Tirupati.

Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Geeta Manimala and Harikatha CD on the great saint poetess were released on this ceremonious occasion.
