YOUTH FORM “HUMAN MOUNT” DURING UTLOTSAVAM

PILGRIMS CHERISH THE UNIQUE FESTIVAL IN TIRUMALA

TIRUPATI, SEPTEMBER 7: The ‘Utlotsavam’ festival was observed amidst great religious ecstasy in the hill town on Monday where in the local youth participated in a large number to break the butter filled mud pot on the succeeding day of ‘Krishna Janmashtami ‘ by forming “Human Pyramid”.

Utlotsavam was conducted at different places atop the temple town encircling the hill shrine, commencing in front of the main temple complex. Every year this celestial fete draws huge crowds and the pilgrims cherish the unique fete which is as famous as “Dahi Handi” that is being observed in Maharastra during Janmasthami.

Hundreds of enthusiastic youth who formed into groups among themselves in their resplendent joy vied with others to capture the prize money tied atop a long wooden post smeared with sticky and other oily substances.

Meanwhile, the processional deities of Lord Malayappa Swamy and Lord Sri Krishna were taken around in a grand procession on golden ‘Tiruchi’ around the mada streets encircling the holy shrine. Another interesting feature of this event is that the deities also watched the fun filled festival.

Prominent among those who took part in the festival included TTD Trust Board Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, TTD Executive officer Dr D Sambasiva Rao, Tirupati JEO and Tirumala JEO In-Charge Sri P Bhaskar, temple Deputy EO Sri C Ramana and other officials.
