7.5 KM OF RING ROAD UNDER CONSIDERATION AT TIRUMALA
Tirumala, 3 october, 2014: The TTD has taken up a survey to rejuvenate and revamp all roads, arterial roads and traffic junctions at Tirumala to ensure against any traffic jams and provide smooth experience and movement to pedestrian and devotee traffic at the hill shrine.
Sri C.Chandrasekhar, chief engineer of the TTD said at the media centre that TTD plans to make the entire area around the Srivari temple, Kalyana Katta, Annaprasadam complex strictly pedestrian and divert all traffic on to the Outer ring road. ‘We have laid 2.8 km long four lane outer ring road at a cost of Rs.30 crore and plan to extend it to 7.5 kms all around the Tirumala ‘ he said.
He said Tirumala has the best black topped and cement roads which withstood the ravages of heavy rainfall and also acute summer heat.’We have 62 kms of arterial and side lanes at Tirumala, all built to high quality standards and once the outer ring is completed, heavy vehicles including jeeps and cars will be banned on these roads ‘ he said
The engineering department is also working out strategies to meet the water supply needs if all guest houses and to ensure gravity flow in the guest houses and public places, he said. ‘TTD allocated almost 20 percent of the annual budget for maintenance of roads (10), medians, water supply lines (7.25) and electricity (7)’ he said.
During the year the Engineering department has taken up huge construction activity for building hostels for college and school students at Tirupati, and major choultries additions etc.
