KOIL ALWAR TIRUMANJANAM PERFORMED WITH RELIGIOUS FERVOUR

TIRUMALA DECKS UP FOR VAIKUNTHA EKADASI

Tirumala, 15 December 2015: The religious ceremony of Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam was performed with religious fervour in the hill shrine of Tirumala on Tuesday before the Srivari temple gets ready for the mega religious event of Vaikuntha Ekadasi which falls on December 21 next week.

CLEANSING BY DEVOTEES:

Koil Alwar means”Holy Shrine”, Alwar means “Devotee”, Tirumanjanam means Cleaning with Aromatic ingredients”.

On the whole Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam is a purification ceremony of sanctum sanctorum and temple premises by devotees. During the ceremony all the deities and other articles were removed from santum sanctorum and cleansed while the presiding deity is covered with a water- proof covering.

KICCHILI GADDA ACTS AS DISINFECTANT:

The entire Garbha Griham, including floors, ceilings and walls, sub-shrines inside the sanctum, puja articles were cleaned with water and Tirumanjanam which is a composition of camphor, sandal paste, saffron, turmeric Kicchili Gadda (a root vegetable) etc. was smeared, which acts as a disinfectant.
The covering of the main deity was then removed and the deities, deepam and other articles are replaced inside which was followed by rendering of Special pujas and Naivedyams to the presiding deity. Later the devotees were allowed for darshan.

FOUR TIMES A YEAR:

This ceremony is performed strictly as per the agamas and is conducted four times year viz. before Ugadi, Anivara Asthanam, Vaikunta Eakadasi and Annual Brahmotsavams.

TTD has cancelled Asta Dala Pada Padmaradhana Seva on Tuesday following this periodical festival.

TTD Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao, Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Temple DyEO Sri Chinnamgari Ramana, TTD Board Members Sri G Bhanuprakash Reddy, Sri DP Ananth and employees took part in the mass cleansing temple festival which lasted from 6am to 9am.
