CULTURAL TRIBUTE TO MUSICAL LEGEND

Tirupati, 3 January 2016: The temple management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is all set to give a befitting tribute to musical legend, Bharat Rathna Smt Madhurai ShanmukhaVadivu Subbulakshmi on her Birth Centenary with a series of classical cultural programmes by eminent artistes from across the country from January 4 to 6 in Mahati Auditorium in TIrupati.

Smt Subbulakshmi known as MSS was born in Madhurai of Tamilnadu to the blessed couple Shanmukavadiver Ammal and Subramania Iyer in 1916. She started learning Carnatic music at an early age and trained in Carnatic music under the tutelage of Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and subsequently in Hindustani music under Pandit Narayanrao Vyas.

Subbulakshmi gave her first public performance, at the age of eleven, in the year 1927, and later shot to global fame by rendering keertans with her divine voice. She was awarded many prestigious titles by not only Government of India including the highest Bharat Rathna but many foreign nations too felicitated the Carnatic Musical Legend.

The temple management of TTD has the privilege of chosing MSS as “Sashwatha Asthana Vidhwan” of TTD in the year 1975. Smt Subbulakshmi rendered Balaji Pancharathnamala including Vishnu Sahasra Namam, Venkateswara Suprabhatam, Bhaja Govindam etc. Which has great demand in the market even today across the world. There is no exaggeration that even now, the day in the hill town of Tirumala begins to the melodious divine voice of MSS’s Suprabhatam-“Kousalya Supraja Rama Poorva Sandhya Pravarthathe..Utthistho Utthistha Govinda Utthistha Garuda Dhwaja..” She breathed her last in 2004. But immortalised herself in the hearts of music lovers and devotees with her divine voice.
