GOLDEN UMBRELLAS PRESENTED TO LORD FOR RATHOTSAVAM

Tirumala, 9 October 2016: As part of the ongoing Brahmotsavam festival the Golden Umbrella festival was grandly celebrated at Tirumala on Sunday evening.

As part of the age old custom the staff of the Kalyana Katta (barbers) ceremonially install a brand new Golden Umbrella ahead of the prestigious and auspicious Rathotsavam event at Tirumala tomorrow morning.

The heirs of the Pantulu family have been presenting a Golden Umbrella to Lord Venkateswara since the days of Sri Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagar Empire.It was Koyya Umbrella then but Golden Umbrella since1952. Sri Panthulugari Ramanathan, descendant of the Pantulu family presented the umbrellas at a ceremony on Tuesday evening.

TTD chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, TTD EO Dr D Sambasiva Rao, Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Kalyana Katta DyEO Sri Venkataiah and other senior officials participated.
