LITERARY TRIBUTES PAID TO VENGAMAMBA
TIRUPATI, MAY 1: Rich literary tributes paid during the 285th birth anniversary celebrations of renowned saint poetess Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba in the temple city here on Friday, as scholars chose to deliver enlightening lectures to mark the occasion.
The two-day fete, organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), began with a series of spiritual activities, including lectures on the life of the Saint poetess in Tirupati.
Project Coordinator Sri K.J. Krishnamurthy spoke about the great work “venkatachala mahatyam” penned by Vengamamba at a programme organised at Annamacharya Kalamandiram, highlighting her dedication and devotion towards Lord Venkateswara, whichhelped her attain salvation. He went on saying that this is the book which has laid the base in the expansion and propagation of Sri venkateswara Bhakticult in a big way.
Later in her lecture, Dr P Kusumakumari elaborated on the social issues that were being highlighted by vengamamba through her works. She described the Saint poetess as the pioneer of women empowerment.
Dr. Saikrishna Yachendra of Venkatagiri, Dr P Keshavulu also spoke on this occasion.
