LORD SHIVA RIDES ON KALPAVRIKSHA ON SEVENTH DAY
Tirupati, 16 February 2015: Lord Sri Kapileswara Swamy flanked by His Consort Kamakshi Devi took a celestial ride on Kalpavriksha Vahanam on the morning of the seventh day of the ongoing Sri KT annual brahmotsavams on Monday.
According to Hindu mythology, Kalpavriksham is a wish-fulfilling divine tree which has the power to grant every wish of man. Its branches bore every kind of fruit and flower one wished for, and the apple of the tree was believed to have the virtue of conferring eternal life upon him or her who tasted it.
Scientifically called Adansonia digitata-Baobab which is also called the “Chemist Tree” is a tree whose average life is more than 2500 years and is one of the trees which are traditionally used for health promoting effects. According to the Padma Purana, this tree is the ‘Parijatavriksha’ – Night-flowering Jasmine.
Lord Shiva who is also known as a “Bhola Shankar”, one who offers boons to His with naivety, took ride on yet another boon giving celestial tree Kalpavriksha.
