PAVITROTSAVAMS CONCLUDE IN SRI GT WHILE TAKE OFIN SRI PAT
Tirupati, 26 Sep. 15: Spiritual fervour marked the three-day annual ‘Pavitrotsavams’ festival which concluded on a religious note with Purnahuti in the ancient and famous shrine of Sri Govindaraja Swamy in Tirupati while the same festival took off on a traditional note in Sri Padmavathi Ammavaru temple at Tiruchanoor on Saturday.
According to the Agama Shastras, Pavitrotsavams are held each passing year to restore the sanctity of the temple by washing away the sins committed all year long by the visiting devotees as well as the temple staff through Aalaya Sudhi and Punyahavachanam.
On first day Pavitra Homam, second day Pavitramala Samarpana and third day Purnahuthi are usually observed by the priests.
In Sri GT, this purification ritual was culminated with Purnahuti. The day commenced with rendering of ‘Suprabhatam’ followed by ‘Sahasranamarchana’.
Later, the processional deities were taken to ‘Yagashala’ and special ‘aradhana’ and ‘homams’ performed before conducting ‘Maha Purnahuthi’.
After the ritual, Santhi Homam, Pavitra Visarjanam, Kumbha Prokshana, Nivedana were performed before offering sacred ‘teertham’ to the devotees who took part in this celestial fete.
Temple DyEO Sri Chandrasekhar Pillai and other temple officials took part in this fete.
In Sri PAT, the three day festival commenced on a grand note as per tenets of Pancharathra Agama Vidhi. Temple priests conducted ‘homam’ in the specially prepared ‘yagasala’ and performed ‘Snapana Tirumanajanam’ later in the evening to the processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi amid chanting of verses from the scriptures.
