SNAPANA TIRUMANJANAM PERFORMED

Tiruchanoor, 30 November 2016: The snapana tirumanjanam was performed to the processional deity of Goddess Padmavathi Devi in Tiruchanoor on Wednesday.

IMPORTANCE:

The snapana tirumanjanam is usually offered during annual brahmotsavams to give a soothing feel and freshness to the deities who will have a hectic day with Vahana sevas.

TRADITIONAL JARGON

This involves a series of activities which is usually observed in our daily life. However the sanskrit jargon for brushing, bathing, dressing etc. is interesting to note.

SERIES

After taking permission from Goddess, Viswaksena Aradhana, Punyahavachanam were performed. Ghrita, Arghya, Padya, Achamaniya, were also rendered. Later the celestial bath with Ksheera(milk), Dadhi(curd), Madhu(honey), Narikelam(coconuts), Haritrodakam(turmeric) and Gandhdakam(sandalpaste) is being offered.

UPACHARAMS TO GODDESS

The first and foremost upacharam happens to be Dantadhavanam(brushing), Jihwa Nirlekhana(tongue cleaning), Gandusha(mouth washing), Mukha Prakshalana(cleaning the face), Plota vastra Samarpana(cleaning with towel), and finnaly offered Abhyangana Snanam with Ushnodakam(head bath with warm water).

The entire process will be performed while the vedic pundits are chanting Taittiriya Upanishad, Purusha Suktam, Sri Prasna Samhita.

According to Kankana Bhattar Sri Archakam Vakulabhranam Srinivasa Manikantha Bhattar, the Snapanam is performed for ten days including nine days of brahmotsavams and also during Psuhpayagam which falls on the immediate day after annual brahmotsavams in Tiruchanoor.

Tirumala JEO Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Tirupati JEO Sri P Bhaskar, temple Sp Gr DyEO Sri Munirathnam Reddy, AEO Sri Radhakrishna took part in this celestial fete on Wednesday which was performed at Sri Krishna Mukha Mandapam.
