SUDARSHANA CHAKRAM OFFERED HOLY BATH MARKING CONCLUSION OF BRAHMOTSAVAMS

Srinivasa Mangapuram, 18 Feb 2015: The nine day annual Brahmotsavams in Sri SKVST came to a grand end with the Sudarshana Chakrattalwar being offered the ceremonious dip in the holy waters of Pushkarini on Wednesday.

Earlier the Snapana Tirumanjanam is performed to utsavarulu between 9am to 10:30am. Later the Sudarshana Chakrattalwar is dipped in the sacred waters of temple tank amidst the chanting of VEDIC hymns by priests in the auspicious moment which marked the conclusion of the mega religious fete.

According to Hindu Scriptures, Sudarshana Chakra is a spinning, disk-like weapon with 108 serrated edges used by Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. The Sudarshana Chakra may be depicted as an ayudhapurusha(anthropomorphic form). He is depicted as a fierce form of Vishnu. While the Sudarshana Chakra is depicted as a subordinate figure with Vishnu, it is worshipped as an ayudhapurusha in its own shrine attached to the central temple.

According to the Puranas, Sudarshana Chakra is used for the ultimate destruction of an enemy. There is yet another significance, the word Sudarshana means “vision of which is auspicious”. Hence Sudarshana is generally worshiped during Homas or rituals or religious events to ward off negative powers or vibrations. This is significant feature in performing chakra snanam to the holy disc during Brahmotsavams.

JEO Sri Pola Bhaskar, DyEO Sri Sridhar, AEO Sri Dhanjeyelu, VGOS Sri Raveendra Reddy, Temple Staff and large number of devotees took a holy dip in the pushkarni.
