TIRUMALA HAS SET AN EXAMPLE IN “SWACHTA”-SRI PARAMESWARAN IYER:

Tirupati, 18 November,16: Complimenting the efforts of the temple management of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams in taking forward the Clean India campaign in an effective manner in various aspects, the Secretary, Ministry of Drinking water and Sanitation Sri Parameswara Iyer said that Tirumala has set an example to other iconic places in “Swachhta”.

The first quarter review meeting of Swacch Bharat Iconic Places took place in the temple city of Tirupati on Friday hosted by TTD.

Addressing the meeting, Sri Iyer said, Swachh Bharat Mission is the flagship sanitation programme of Government of India aims to realise the dream of a ‘Clean India’ by 2nd October 2019, as a tribute on 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who dreamt of Clean India.

Later briefing the media persons in the evening he said “Under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative the Centre, has taken up special clean-up initiative focused on 100 iconic heritage, spiritual and cultural places in the country. Apart from Tirumala temple Sri Mata Vaishnavo Devi temple, Tajmahal, Golden Temple of Punjab, Ajmer Sharif, Sri Jagannath Temple, Chatrapathi Shivaji Terminus, Manikarnika Ghat, Meenakshi temple, Kamakhya temple have also been selected in first phase. This was also one of the platforms for “PSUs” to know the Action plan and its implementation, so that they can appreciate the proposals and Expedite releasing the funds, for the Projects submitted to them by various iconic places”, he said.

“Today about 60 representatives from these ten iconic places took part in this meeting. The motto of this meeting is how to set the highest standards of Swacchta by next year. Significant improving has been shown by all the places and TTD has already implemented solid waste management techniques, renewable resource of energies, battery cars, drip water irrigation and other major initiatives and has become a role model to others”, he reiterated.

Later in his address Dr D Sambasiva Rao, the administrative chief of TTD said that among all the important shrines in India, apart from the pilgrim service and Rituals in the hill shrine as per Agama, we are also committed to maintain Clean and hygienic environs of Tirumala, Conservation of ecology of Tirumala Seshachala Ranges, effectively taking up solid waste management, maintenance of hygienic environs in the hill town, illumination with energy saving LED lights, non conventional energy sources etc. he added. He said, PSUs like the CIL, Neiveli and ONGC have come forward to extend their support to further enhance our services under Swacch Bharat mission.

Earlier in his address the OSD of Swacch Bharat mission, Sri Akshai Rout complimented TTD for its achievements. He said the meeting has provided the exchange of best practices between iconic sites. He called upon the representatives of iconic sites for local launch of sessions like TTD. “The deliberations of this meeting will come soon in the form of a digital book and next session will be organised after three months in yet another iconic site”, he added.

Meanwhile the exhibition displaying the Swacch Bharat initiatives by the ten iconic sites caught the attention of delegates while the TTD expo received huge appreciation.

BATTERY CARS LAUNCHED

The Secretary Sri Parameswaran Iyer along with EO Dr D Sambasiva Ro and OSD Sri Akshai Rout launched two more battery vehicles at a cost of approximately Rs.7 lakhs each.

Tirumala Jeo Sri KS Sreenivasa Raju, Tirupati Jeo Sri Pola Bhaskar and other delegates, representatives from ten iconic sites were also present.
