“GODDESS OF RICHES” SETS READY FOR SPECTACULAR FETE WITH DWAJAROHANA MAHOTSAVAM

TIRUCHANOOR, NOV 19:  The annual nine-day Karthika Brahmotsavams of Goddess Padmavathi Devi at Tiruchanoor commenced on a grand religious note with “Dwajaroahana Mahotsavam” that took place with devotional gaiety in the famous temple on Wednesday.

At the designated ‘Dhanur Lagnam’ between 9.16a.m. to 9.30 a.m. the auspicious muhurat as per the Hindu almanac, the priests hoisted the “Gaja Pathakam”- flag bearing the image of divine elephant atop the ‘Dhwajasthambam’ (flag post) in the temple precincts, amidst the rhythmic beat of traditional drums and trumpets accompanied by systemic rendering of vedic hymns as per Pancharathra Agama.

In adherence to the age-old tradition, the chief agama scholar and the Kanakana Bhattar Sri Manikantha Swamy carried out the ritual procedure as per Pancharatra Agama by reciting hymns inviting the deities including Devendra, Asthadikpalakas, invoking Garuda-Viswaksena and Anantha to take part in this mighty religious ceremony.

Bheri Tandavam, Astadikpalaka Kainkaryam and Asthanam were performed. About 20 ragas were rendered in Nadaswaram including Sankarabharanam, Bhairavi, Nata, Sriraga, Kalyani, Mohana, Goula, Varali, Punnagavarali, Todi etc. and appeased the deities.

Meanwhile the pressing Deity (Moolavirat) of Goddess Padmavathi was tastefully decorated with dazzling jewels and silk costumes befitting the occasion while the processional deity in all her new attire and glittering diamond studded golden jewels was seated on a special Asan as long as the Dhwajarohana ritual is going.

The entire temple complex was beautifully decorated with rare and resplendent flowers, both traditional and exotic varieties.

Addressing the occasion, TTD EO Sri MG Gopal invited the devotees to take part in this nine-day festival in a big way and make it a grand success.
