SPECIAL STORY ON SAIKAT ART AT TIRUMALA_ భక్తిభావం పంచుతున్న ఉగ్రనరసింహుని సైకత శిల్పం
Tirumala, 25 September 2017: Everybody talks about sands of time as a vanishing thing. But two sand artists Ms M Nanjundaswamy Gowri and her sister Neelambika have proved it wrong by sketching popular art forms in sand and make it stay longer and longer.
The young duo have sketched the Hindu mythological deity Ugra Narasimha in sand at the exhibition grounds of Tirumala for Brahmotsavam-2017. This is fifth year that they have drawn sketches of Hindu gods drawing huge foot falls during Brahmotsavams. Other themes Matysavataram, Garuda-Ananda Nilaya, Lakshmi Venkateswara,Ksheeraardana. They used three truck loads of sands and spent almost two weeks in making that huge art form at the exhibition grounds. ‘We were introduced to Tirumala by Garden Superintendent Sri G Srinivasulu who gave us a chance to display our skills’ she says.
A BE mechanical graduate turned Saikath artist, Gowri says that her ambition is to set up a permanent museum at Tirumala on the concept theme of Lord Venkateswara in all forms. ‘If they permit me I will set up a sand museum of Lord Venkateswara ‘.
She said her father owned a sheet metal fabrication factory and he forced her to do mechanical engineering BE (Mechanical) but her heart was in sand arts which she had cherished since her childhood. When ever she went to the banks of Cauveri river in Mysore district she had tried her feat in sand forms. While surfing over the internet she found the popularity of sand sculptures in foreign countries and aimed to take forward her childhood fancy for drawing, sketching, paintings, clay modelling. She has now completed BFA (Bachelor in fine arts) now doing MFA (Masters in fine arts) final year at KSOU university Mysore.
She did her first sand sculpture of lord Shiva at Sutur, near Mysore for akilabharatha veerashiva mahasabha on 18-4-2011 and from then onwards she has not looked back.
‘My family has accepted my love for sand arts now and hence my father Nanjundaswamy, mom Nagalambika & elder sister Neelambika are fully supporting her ventures at Tirumala and also in Mysore. Asked how they make it she said making the sculpture the sand was touch job physically and mentally also. Sand must be piled up load by load and after reaching a certain height it should be mixed with water compressed and rammed before starting of the art form. ‘We have to completed it from top to bottom with shovel, planers’ and simple hand tools.
Gowri and her family team displayed their Saikat art at 50 places all over india including Cuttack (bali yatra and international sand art festival at Orissa, Eco friendly Ganesh’s at Belgaum, Mahabharata at lalbagh Bangalore, Durga Devi at Dharwad for dasara, Coimbatore, Erode, Hassan, Chitradurga, Mysore, Vellore, Madakeri and others. She did wild animals for Erode and Kanakapura exhibition.
Gowris Mysore sand musuem, indias first has 16 saikat forms and it tool It took around 8 months to complete with 115 truck loads of sand. The prominent are forms are are Ganesh, Mosque and minar with holy book of Quran, Christmas Santa with decorated Christmas tree, Laughing Buddha, traditional Mysore Dasara procession, the last royal heir of Mysore Sirkantadatta Narashimaraja wodyer seated on the royal throne and Devi Chamundeshwari of Chamundi hills. She has also sketched first 5 historical ancient civilizations of the world, tribes of world, endangered wild animals, Marine life representing all the ocean creatures found under the sea.

భక్తిభావం పంచుతున్న ఉగ్రనరసింహుని సైకత శిల్పం
సెప్టెంబర్‌ 25, తిరుమల 2017: శ్రీవారి సాలకట్ల బ్రహ్మూెత్సవాల సందర్భంగా తిరుమలలోని కల్యాణవేదిక వద్ద ఏర్పాటుచేసిన ప్రదర్శనశాలల్లో భాగంగా ఏర్పాటుచేసిన ఉగ్రనరసింహుని సైకత శిల్పం భక్తులను ఎంతగానో ఆకట్టుకుంటోంది. పురాతన కళారూపాల్లో ఒకటైన సైకత శిల్పకళ నాలుగేళ్లుగా శ్రీవారి బ్రహ్మూెత్సవాలకు విచ్చేస్తున్న భక్తులను అలరిస్తోంది. ఈసారి శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు దశావతారాల్లో ఒకటైన ఉగ్ర నరసింహుని అవతారాన్ని సైకత శిల్పంగా మలిచారు. ఈ శిల్పం భక్తులకు భక్తిభావాన్ని పంచుతోంది. మైసూరుకు చెందిన గౌరి, నీలాంబిక సైకత శిల్పకళలో ఫైన్‌ ఆర్ట్స్‌ డిగ్రీని పూర్తి చేశారు. వీరు పౌరాణికాంశాలను సందర్భానికి తగ్గట్టు ఇసుకతో శిల్పంగా మలచడంలో సిద్ధహస్తులు.
టిటిడి ఉద్యానవన విభాగం 2014 శ్రీవారి బ్రహ్మూెత్సవాల నుంచి ఫలపుష్ప ప్రదర్శనశాలలో సైకత శిల్పాలకు చోటు కల్పిస్తోంది. తిరుమల ఆదివరాహక్షేత్రం కావడంతో మొదటి సంవత్సరం ”శ్రీభూవరాహస్వామి” శిల్పాన్ని గౌరి, నీలాంబిక రూపొందించారు. శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరస్వామివారు తిరుమలలో ఉండేందుకు గాను శ్రీ వరాహస్వామి కొంత స్థలాన్ని ఇచ్చారని పురాణాల ప్రకారం తెలుస్తోంది. ఈ సందర్భాన్ని ద ష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని శ్రీభూవరాహస్వామివారి రూపాన్ని ఇసుకతో రూపొందించారు. 2015లో జరిగిన శ్రీవారి బ్రహ్మూెత్సవాల్లో గరుత్మంతుడు శ్రీవారి ఆనందనిలయ విమానాన్ని వైకుంఠం నుంచి తీసుకొస్తున్నట్టు సైకత శిల్పంగా రూపొందించారు. ఈ శిల్పం భక్తుల మన్ననలు అందుకుంది. 2016లో మత్స్యావతార శిల్పం భక్తులను ఆకట్టుకుంది. సోమకాసురుడు అనే రాక్షసుడి నుంచి శ్రీమహావిష్ణువు మత్స్య రూపంలో వేదాలను రక్షించినట్టు పురాణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. ఈ నాలుగు వేదాలను నలుగురు చిన్నారులుగా శిల్పంలో రూపొందించారు.
ఈ బ్రహ్మూెత్సవాల్లో ఉగ్రనరసింహస్వామివారి రూపం భక్తులకు మహదానందం కలిగిస్తోంది. ఇందులో హరిణ్యకశిపుని సంహరిస్తున్న ఉగ్ర నరసింహస్వామి, పక్కనే భక్త ప్రహ్లాదుని రూపాలున్నాయి. ఈ సైకత శిల్పాన్ని రూపొందించేందుకు మూడున్నర ట్రక్కుల ఇసుకను వినియోగించారు.
